Me Look Pretty One Day

2008.05.10
My favorite of the geisha series. Make-up and hair=me, dandelion=her
She has such beautiful eyes. I will be taking her bra straps out of these. She didn't want to go braless with a white dress.

Umbrella=me

I love the photos from above the best because they slim out her baby cheeks.

I was so surprised that she would stand in front of this web because when she was younger, she would freak out if a bug even came near her. It was her idea to do this pose. Very cute!

My pose. It was awkward for me to direct and shoot. Gotta practice that. Grr...

This one is going to be fun to edit. Bring out the color.

She doesn't seem thirteen from behind. Haha!

I can't wait to bring out these flowers if possible.

Just a cute one of her taking a hike.

A few days ago I finally asked to borrow Neil's camera since I seems to be too occupied when I'm with him to remember. I've been wanting to take photos with my sister but I've been a bit stubborn about it because I was putting it off until I bought a Canon Rebel XT. But since that doesn't appear as though it's going to happen for a bit longer, I sucked it up and stole her away for a few hours.

She was pretty happy about it but a bit awkward as most young girls are. In April she turned 13 and has hit the teen years. Right now she's feeling a little insecure because of the fact that she is going through menstruation and has put on a little bit of chub.

So I thought I'd make her feel pretty with some attractive photos of herself, as the ones that were taken of me at that age were horrid. When she was younger she had a great obsession with anything chinese or japanese. She insisted her room be decorated with it and so to bring that back, I did her make-up in a geisha-like fashion with my own colors. Since I had two dogs and a three year old brother distracting me, they were taken very quickly but I was still able to get some good ones.

I also took her to Mud Creek outside of town and shot her in the woods wearing her Halloween costume from last year with a bit of my own twist on that too. Those were rushed as well due to the fact that I don't have a car at this point and my mom didn't want me gone long with her van that doesn't have insurance. Haha! But they turned out alright. As soon as I get my new software, I'll be able to play with them more and she'll be able to have some photos to show off to her friends.

It was a lot of fun and I know I need to be taking more photos so that I can start getting better at direction when I'm shooting because I haven't got that down yet. Sometimes I have all these ideas and as soon as I get in the shoot itself, I loose it and feel awkward with my subject. I ask for a lot of opinion and that doesn't work because I'm the artist. So it's all in good time. This is technically my third shoot and I have a long way to go.

The photos that I've chosen to share are obviously the originals and will be much better once I'm finished. I was just too excited to wait because I have such a cute sister. She's going to be gorgeous when she gets older.
