Hey but how do you/we KNOW that that's you? (kidding). It's a lovely image and it's good to see your camera. Kim (my sweetheart) has been wondering what you use. I haven't used film for ages. I used to use a Russian twin reflex thing that had a fabulously erratic self timer, it was frustrating for a while but then I realised it took really excellent spontaneous self portraits. Got a lot of pictures of my knee's. It died (the timer bit) in a sand dune. I miss it.

Hi Dragana, Thanks for posting my photo! What a surprise to see it in my blog reader... Not sure if you remember our conversation that day, but part of it stuck with me. I was racing the fleeting light and struggling with the false comfort that I could always come back again some other day and get the shot "right." But I was also aware that really, there was no other day, I might never come back, I would never have another chance at that moment. And that is the fundamental nature of what I'm doing with the camera in my hand-- trying to stave off the fleetingness of the light, of my life.

I remember that day very well. It was a great day ... looking at the old cameras in Vlkova, taking pictures and talking about the photography all day. As Susan Sontag said (I am going to give the free interpretation here), photography is like death. You press that shutter, and its gone, never to be repeated again.
