Trials and Tribulations of Lith Printing (or How I Lost My Temper in Dubai)

2009.01.02

Oh Dubai. Still don't know what to make out of it. Constantly followed, propositioned and harassed by men there. (I have to say that I was warned not to go to the harbor on my own). I got so sensitive to it after three days there I started telling them to "F*** Off" if they just looked at me. You should see the facial expressions of men who are not used to woman talking back to them, when you tell them that. Came back home with a lot of boring negatives. It is not easy to concentrate on what's ahead of you if you have to watch your back constantly. Lith printed them. Results unpredictable, but sometimes very rewarding.

dae88 first I've ever heard of lith printing. why lith printing? what do you get in the final lith print that you can't get with other techniques? the results look similar to what one used to get simply with the choice of a warm tone paper.

makaid That would dampen the mood a bit I think. I was reading an article on the differences between male and female photographers. One of the big factors is culture. In that culture, a man may have been more at ease. However in other western cultures a woman may put subjects more at ease and arouse less suspicion. I think this affects the way we think and changes what we photograph. I do not think these are boring though.

etodd80 Sounds like an interesting experience. When was it? #2 kind of appeals to me. No good reason, just is interesting.

FCMFotoguy I like the work......... I have experienced Dubai myself, the Middle East is unique in many ways. The treatment of women is not to be admired, to say the least.

Happy New Year my friend !

Sevendipity Nice set. like no 3. I wonder if photographers extend their personality through their lens and that living subjects respond accordingly?
Sevendipity · 2009-01-03: 19:03
jenjung Too bad your experience was ruined a bit by those kind of men.
jenjung · 2009-01-04: 03:35
dadlak fascinating story...our image of Dubai is of skyscrapers and oil billionaires that are trying to buy out the US economy
