Argument

2009.01.05

Prospero and Prospero, Island of Vis, Croatia

An argument between a grandfather and a grandson. Over tying ropes properly. Definitely a skill you need to learn. Well.

DancingDolphin This made me laugh, which may not have been the intention, but being around sailors a lot I know this argument well!

Do you know Croatia well? My son is planning to go there for his honeymoon next summer... any tips?

Nellinka Lovely!
I can't help thinking of Shakespeare's Prospero as well.. =)

makaid The last one makes me smile! That is great. The grandfather probably is asking him how he doesn't know how to tie a knot. The grandson is probably wondering why he would ever have to know how to tie a knot. I love the exasperation on both of their faces.

longimanus This scene just hit me… as if it was copied from one of my fav movies “The big blue”… and yes, I can see them arguing, but not about tying ropes…
"Hey, have you ever seen a mermaid?" (uncle)
"No." (Jacques)
"I have, you know. Don't you want to know where? Why don't you ask me?" (uncle)
"What?" (Jacques)
"Where I saw mermaids. Why don't you ever ask any questions? I'm always the one asking the questions. I'm now aware I ask the questions so now I'm talking to myself! Ask me something goddammit!" (uncle)
"Why did my mother leave?" (Jacques)
"Row. (silence) Your mother didn't leave. She went back to America. That's all. It is her home. Women are like that. Unpredictable. Like the sea." (uncle)
Ps: I`ve been at least 20 times to Croatia, first as child and than I always had to return.
