Post Office, New York

2007.12.16

This particular Post Office building is opposite Madison Square Garden (and I'm sure my pictures don't do it justice!) in New York.

It was difficult to fit the whole building in, the angles etc, and retain as much of the Post Office motto that is inscribed along the top of the building.

Inside it was equally beautifully decorated, and like most things in America, made me wish we had preserved the interiors of our buildings in Britain as well as we have the outside.

The United States may be lagging behind us in the history stakes, but they more than make up for it by actually preserving what they have whereas we seem to turn every old bank or post office or building into a trendy wine bar or apartment block - or worse still raze to the ground and replace with some concrete eyesore.

The pictures were shot on print film back in June 2001 and recently scanned from the original prints.
