????? Thanks so much Marie! You might find this interesting: The Altneushul is usually associated with the Maharal of Prague, Rabbi Yehudah Loew, from whom the Lubavitcher Rebbe is descended. The body of the Golem (a clay "man" created by Kabbalistic means by Rabbi Yehudah Loew, to save the community from blood libels,) lies in the attic of the synagogue. It is told that a Nazi agent during World War II attempted to go into the attic, but perished in the attempt. Following that, the Gestapo apparently did not enter the attic during the war, and the building was spared during their destruction of synagogues. The Lubavitcher Rebbe entered the room, but came out very pale, and said that nobody should go in there anymore. The lowest three meters from the stairs leading to the attic from the outside have been removed and the attic is not open to the public anymore.
