Wonderful post. The painting on the walls of the first Renaissance house reminds me of a building in Boston -- the wall is entirely flat, and architectural details are painted on. I've seen work like in 12 here, though much less ornate. Living in a much newer city, and in a country which I believe was traditionally poorer, we have very few beautiful buildings.
