Let´s get baking: apple strudel

2011.11.13
pixel
Slice 3-4 apples and sprinkle them with 2 table spoons of brown sugar , 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and a little clove
In response to Biskayne:
I take any apples I have on hand - but we seldom buy apples from a supermarket - my father in law has a garden with apple trees, so we have a supply:) Generally if your apples are very sweet it is good to sprinkle them with a little lemon juice.
pixel
mix together to cover the apples and let it rest for about 30 minutes - the reason is we want the apples to loose some of the juices
pixel
prepare the dough - I think it is called phyllo dough in English:) or puff pastry?
Roll it out fairly thinly and place it on the baking sheet
pixel
After about 30 minutes place the apples on a strainer to collect the juices
pixel
You will need one egg
pixel
beaten...
pixel
about a cup of nuts , chooped- I used wallnuts, but you can use any nuts you have. Some people also add raisins, which should be marinated in rum before - but my family does not like them in an apple strudel, so I leave them out.
pixel
You put the apple juice and a table spoon of butter in a a small pan and simmer over a low heat about 2 minutes, depends on how much juice you got out of the apples:)
pixel
until it gets like this:) then you will combine it with the apples again
pixel
now the fun begins:)
pixel
place the apples on the dough - in the middle
pixel
add wallnuts
pixel
see what I am doing with the beaten egg?
pixel
pixel
now roll the doug ...
pixel
remove the paper
pixel
the other side
pixel
press a little together--OH my, I am glad this is a photoblog, I am so bad in explaining things in English LOL
pixel
brush the whole strudel with the beaten egg
pixel
ready for the oven, which should be preheated and very hot - 210 degrees Celsius, sorry, have no idea how much is this in the other guy called Fahrenheit.....
Thanks to Lookwhatisaw I can add: 210°C = 410°F
LOL
pixel
and after about 20 minutes...
pixel
your kitchnen is heaven...
pixel
and you are the star:)))
pixel
Enjoy!!

lookwhatisaw This has got to be the best photo-recipe that I have ever seen - hands down! Your photos are so accurate and clear and now I can go and make an Apfelstrüdel pretty easily thanks to this. The ONLY question I have is what else is in the bowl with the butter in number 8? (Oh, at what temp and how long?) THANKS for posting this!

lookwhatisaw Thanks for the added descriptions. Going to get some walnuts and get to work. Doesn't seem all that difficult at all. Yes, we call it phyllo dough in English, and the 210°C = 410°F (375°C = 191°C -- 350°F = 177°C : why is it the F° always look even and the C° look odd? LOL)
