Tanforan Mall In San Bruno, Ca. - Horse Racing / Old 1970's Rusted And Weathered Sign

When Tanforan Mall first opened in 1971 they put up these really cool numbered signs with horse logos (it was a horse track before the mall was built) on all the parking lot lamps so you could remember where you parked your vehicle at. Thirty two years later in 2003 the mall closed its doors to be renovated and brought up to date. In October of 2005 right before Tanforan opened it's doors again all of these really cool numbered signs were taken down except for one, lucky number 11. How could they forget to take this one sign down!? I mean it's not like this particular lamp is in a far corner of the parking lot or out of the way somewhere.

I double checked and yes, this really is the last one of the originals left. Who knows, maybe they left it up intentionally.

I've always enjoyed something about old signs and I like to look up at this particular one everytime I pass by it.

If your ever in San Bruno, Ca. and decide to visit Tanforan Mall make sure to take a minute to go out of your way and find the horse with the number 11 below it. It shouldn't be too hard as long as you remember that it's right outside of JC Penny.
