Fumone - A Medieval Town

L'incantevole paese di Fumone sorge a 783 m s.m. al centro nei Monti Ernici con circa 2.100 abitanti. Caratteristico per la sua tipica forma a cono e per la sua struttura medioevale costituita dall’antico perimetro originario del borgo e dalla rocca che si erge in posizione centrale.

Deriva il suo nome dal fatto che nel corso del Medioevo, a causa della sua posizione strategica, dominante sulla vallata sottostante, segnalava per mezzo di fuochi e fumate agli abitanti dei centri vicini dei pericoli imminenti, e da questo deriva anche il detto popolare "Cum Fumo fumet tota Campania tremat ..."

This Enchanted Town rises to 783 meters over sea level in middle of Erici Mountains with about 2.100 Peoples.
Characteristic for its typical cone shape and for its medieval structure constituted from the ancient original perimeter of the village and from the rock that rises in central position.

Its name comes from the fact that in the Middle Ages, because of its strategic position on the below valley, people signaled thru fires and smoke imminent dangers, and from this drift also the popular saying "Cum Fumo fumet tota Campania tremat..."
