No one remembers when last they shared
No one remembers when
those who cared gathered to share
a prayer, a memory, a meal in this forgotten parcel.
Crossing sun baked prairies for a place to rest
They spent as much time here,
assembled among
the tall firs and old cedars
as they would in their church
made of felled fir and hewn cedars.
These yards filled with graves
of fathers and brothers, mothers and children
lie restlessly divided from their past.
Removed, sectioned, separated from the open fields.
Now relegated to a dusty off-ramp
near a popular discount store.
