We Grow 'Em Big

Pacific Northwest Banana Slug~ tastes like rattlesnake

They call them Banana Slugs not so much because they are yellow but for the fact that specimens as large as the fruit are regularly found.

Banana Slug upon the ground,
Fat and yellow,
soft and round.
A thick and gooey trail of slime
is left behind you all the time.
Drowned in beer
or killed with salt,
Because I know it's all your fault,
that cabbages and beans alike
are disappearing bite by bite.

Bill Bored That was both interesting (the photo) and disgusting ("tastes like rattlesnake"). Thanks!

carmitage I had undreds of them this summer in my garden...no I am not talking bananas, we don't have such fruits... just simple slugs :-)
This one is certainly more sophisticated, you eat them ?
Must try that !

lrippel Wow, those are big all right. Nice poem too. I have some movies of our slugs that I want to get on Youtube as soon as I can find someone with an 8mm Digital camera.

John Kirch Now, wait a minute. I'm confused. I've heard that sometimes people put slugs in coin-op machines. But look at that thing! How do they ever manage?
