Saturday con't - to Waxahachie

2008.06.08
Here we are looking into the zebra enclosure. You might remember hearing that last July a zebra was killed in a drive-by shooting in Waxahachie. . . this is the farm where the shooting took place. Lorne has since moved the animals farther from the road to keep this from ever happening again.

Looking back through the enclosure.

We have walked through the woods and are now crossing a bridge to the camel enclosure.

Look out, here we come!

If you look closely at the top of the dirt rise you will see geese running away from us towards the small lake on the property.

As we are coming off the bridge and Lorne is explaining everything camel to us. . . we see this beauty trotting towards us.

Her name is Farrah, she is very friendly and she is the first of the camel welcoming committee.

After being reassured from Lorne that female camels do not "spit" the group enjoys checking out Farrah, up close.

Here come the boys!

We learned that these male camels do not spit. Instead they lather, foam, and then blow air through their jowls to "distribute" the foamy, snotty, yucky muck all over everything.

For some reason, ALL the camels LOVED Gary. We weren't sure if it was Gary or his hat, but every camel had to follow Gary. . .

See who this guy is looking at?

Hi Gary!

Foam mouth.

Gary pleads, Go, please just go. . .

So, what's everyone laughing at? See the picture below.

If you look close at the camel's mouth he is blowing bubbles of foam, and yes, he is following Gary - again! This is why Lorne had the big stick. He would walk up and push the camels with it to encourage them to go the other way. Bet Gary wished he had the big stick!

This is another cage full of wonderful birds.

While we walked the property the lemurs napped in another shed. Candy and Kathy found the marshmallows and were off for some more lemur time.

The babies.

Momma and baby.

On the lake.

We were warned not to get too close to the swan. He is very protective of his property!
