My third day in Toronto was a "free" day. We wandered under the snow geese in the Eaton Centre...
...past old City Hall...
... past the homeless "home" over a hot air grate with its bed neatly made...
The Bible and Jarry Wills make interesting reading.
... and on to the new City Hall in Nathan Phillips Square with the busy zamboni keeping the ice smooth for the skaters...
... and where there was a fly on the wall.
The "fly" turned out to be a dancer/acrobat testing the lines for a show for Winter City that evening.
Before we left, we checked out some interesting artwork at the side of the square. Entitled The Angel of the Apocalypse, its beaten metal glowed in the sunlight.
Later that afternoon I went to the Art Gallery of Ontario to see the King Tut show and found a gallery that I had missed in an earlier visit.

Back to Nathan Phillips Square where The Angel of the Apocalypse turned out to be an installation for The Flaming Lotus Girls show. They are a volunteer group out of San Francisco and their show is amazing. They say about themselves:
"The Flaming Lotus Girls (FLG) are a female-driven group of artists formed in 2000 to create our first sculpture, the Flaming Lotus. Our sculptures are composed of steel , stainless steel, copper, glass, wood, light, and fire. Our flames blaze in sizes ranging from 2 inches to 150 feet. For the past seven years we have grown and thrived, creating installations for Burning Man and exhibiting at events globally including: Power Tool Drag Races (June 2004, 2006); Fire Arts Exposition: Art on Fire, Fire Arts Festival at the Crucible in Oakland; Festival of Lights in Sausalito (Dec. 2004, 2005); Robodock in Amsterdam (Sept 2005); and the Big Day Out in Australia (Jan 2007)." |
