Feel like writing abit today.. had a truly revelational thought this afternoon, wanna hear it?
A nice story an abbot from australia likes to tell, goes like this:
notice how birds on trees don't fall off the branches when they sleep at night? even when there's a storm, and the branches are swaying violently, we never see a bird lose its balance and plop on the ground! that's because the birds knows they have to relax and let go of control. instinctively, their claws will sink into the branches, and that gives them a firm grip. Their bodies sway with the branches and slowly, they fall asleep. *=)
when they wake up, the storm's over and the sun has risen. they losen their grip, spread their wings and fly into the new day. The birds would probably have gotten really frustrated if they had tried to control the storm or the shaking of the branches; they'd probably have fallen if they panicked and harden their grip. But they let go of control and let their innate ability of overcoming adversity, take over.
Ultimately, letting go of the desire to control the things we have no control over, will definitely take a great deal of suffering off us! then we're left with more time and energy to fight for things that really matter, don't you think?
So phyl realized, if you're trying to steer a ship.. find out if the ship's really yours to steer. Otherwise, wouldn't it be wiser to conserve your energy for ships u can really steer?
