apologies

2006.12.29

i'm very sorry for the lack of new content. as most (or some, or none, lol) of you might be aware of, i got a new film camera a little while back. being the photonerd that i am i took like 20 or 30 rolls of film that was planning on posting up here in increments along with write-ups on the content and techniques that you all out there in phoblog land could use when shooting good old silver. the idea was to give a different spin on my mostly digital blog and add to the community as a whole by spreading technique and ideas to those who might be interested.

well, it kind of backfired.

my day job is at a ritz camera, and you're probably asking yourselves. "so what?" well, i was planning on getting my 20+ rolls scanned in while i was at work because we've got some heavy duty processing equipment, and usually better equipment yields better results, right?

wrong.

the scans are a-t-r-o-c-i-o-u-s. i mean just simply embarassing. the black areas are filled with noise so obvious you could see it even if you were mister magoo, there are random horizontal lines of purple (some of you may have noticed this) and vertical banding of noise across my whole frames....and what's worse is that i can't photoshop it out without killing the photos.

what you've seen up is the cream of the crap, the few shoots that i've been able to salvage and still i would consider them to be pretty sub-par by my personal standards.

now you might be asking, "why not just get a film scanner, and do it yourself?"

the simple answer to that is money. trust me, i love getting new equipment as much as the next guy, but to get the results i want i'm looking at a 600 dollar film scanner or even more (a Nikon Coolscan V, if you care to know, hehe) and i just don't ahve that kind of cash to output at this juncture.

i'm sorry people, i want to keep putting up new stuff, but i've got to step back and regroup for a minute, so expect new stuff to start up again.

examples of the crap above.

oh, and i leave for school two weeks from tomorrow!! so excited! that might be a reason that i don't post for a while, but once i get up there, expect a flood as i go nuts with new stuff.

laserone I was actually wondering what would be a good negative scanner to get. :)
