I Am The Specific Tiger, A diety of Cross Processing Glory!

2006.12.30

Ektachrome (elite chrome) 100, cross processed in C41.

...yeeeeeah, i was bored at work. so what?

~~~~~~~~~
for those wondering what the hell this "cross-processing" stuff-ola is, it's what happens when you take film that is designed to be developed in one process and develop it in a completely different process. most commonly, it's done with either slide film (which is E-6) in color chemicals (which is C-41), or vice versa which would be processing color (which is C-41) in slide chemicals (which is E-6). By doing this you end up with positives (slides) from regular color film or negatives from ordinary slide film.
This result of this deliberate mess up are negatives or positives (slides) that have funky color shifts and/or the contrast has been pumped up to an unbelievably high level. This unpredictability is what makes it so fun.
What i did was take my slide film, and run it through the regular color film negative chemical process, so i ended up with negatives from slide film.
The colors and contrast, which are greatly exaggerated depend on the mix of the solution, which can change from day to day, and the type of film that you're running through said chemicals. there are charts online of what films shift colors and contrast which way, either hot (red) or cool (blue), so google it. Also affecting only color is the type of light that you shoot it under, slide film is much more sensitive to color temperature than negative (regular color) film, so if i remember correctly, your shifts should be much more pronounced under different types of lighting.
For example, all of my shots above, save the sunset and the mirror shot, where done under Flourscent light, which gives off a heave green/yellow cast to film corrected for daylight (like my slide film). The mirror shot was done under Incandescent (also known as Tungsten or regular light bulbs) which has a very warm (red) light, hence then super yellow walls and red skin on me. In reality, the walls were white and i'm a light cinnamon color.
Returning to cross processing, the effect can also be replicated in photoshop, but to me it isn't the same, YMMV though.
I'll post more on color balance and the color of light another night, it goes off topic for what i shot tonight.
as usual, any questions, just ask on here or AIM me, NuSpiritTriumph.
