last wednesday Kristen, who is the girl in the photos and a very close friend of mine, asked me for some help in shooting her friends' band, Valkyrie VII.
the day was clear, which was a good thing seeing as we've had so much cloud cover as of late, and i shot it late afternoon to get the some warmer light off the setting sun in the outdoor shots. (i shot it from 3 to 5 pm). unfortunately...it was mighty cold and they guys could only sit for ten frames at a time and sometimes less before we had to stop for them to put on gloves and jackets and warm up for a few minutes.
fortunately, i had the idea earlier in the day to do some shots in the reading room of the campus library so Kristen and I were able to move them indoors to a warmer place. in reality on these kinds of shoots, the hardest part has nothing to do with anything technical or even photography in general.....it's keeping your client/subject/guinea pig comfortable when the weather is less than desirable. if they're happy, then your life is infinitely easier because it frees you up to concentrate on what's important, shooting.
they only wanted some promo shots, and had a vague idea of what they wanted, but they were willing to try new things so the shoot worked out very well in my opinion.
they were thrilled at the results as well and asked me to do a shoot of their whole band seeing as these two guys are the leads. I'm completely thrilled that they like the images as well...it's always a good feeling when a client like the shots you make of them, haha.

so before, i said Kristen was on the shoot....and i haven't gotten to see her stuff yet, but she was shooting film, so it'll be interesting to see how it all turns out. in fact, this whole shoot was hers and i kind of showed up randomly with my gear to back her up in case her stuff didn't turn out as she'd hoped so because of this it was a pro-bono shoot.
that's not always a bad thing though, because sometimes the contacts you build can be more worthwhile than any sum of money.
