light, the assignment

this is a photo for a project that i've been working on all week/end, due thursday.
the requirement is to capture dramatic light in as best a way as possible. due to this, we (the pjs in BASIC) have to wait for the light to be dramatic...so this one is more of a waiting game.
the best light comes at sunrise, and sunset...so we get two chances a day to get this right. this was taken at sunset on march 5th, in the entrance to the basement of a building on campus called DUC (pronounced duck). the guy is unloading boxes of food for the kitchens which are in DUC, it's where we eat.
because we only get two chances, and the chances last about 35 mins tops before there's not enough light there's a certain amount of pressure to be had when you're walking around looking for not only good light, but something interesting to happen in that good light.
it's really scary if you ask me.
to make things more challenging, you can't ask someone to go stand in the light, it has to be a found situation, otherwise you're not being ethical and if it somehow gets around that you did this, you'll get in big, big trouble. Don't le me scare you though, it's fun...i absolutely love shooting, and the fact that this is a challenge is wonderful..that's the only way that you get better.

we get a new assignment every week, this is this week's assignment. so you can see the ideas are very broad, but the grading is harder, and there's a lot of competition between PJs in the individual classes so not only do you have to put out, but you have to perform to the level of the class...which can be a challenge sometimes.
currently there are three of us that are at the top of the class, and we're all at the same level. Eric, who is my good friend and shooting buddy, A girl whose name i can't remember at this point in time, and myself. so, like i said, we're all the same in terms of shooting ability, so the determining factors are creativity, and most importantly with an assignment like this, luck.
but it's this competition that forces you to push yourself to perform, and in doing so, you push the others to perform as well. it's just a friendly rivalry, with the only thing at stake being bragging rights and maybe a few points on our evals.
~~~~~~~
this shot is from my 3rd roll of film on this assignment alone, which is kind of distressing considering that i only bought 25 rolls of 36 and we have 13 assignments total.
so, it's going to be tight.
oh, this is a scan of a print that i made in the darkroom, no toning was performed.
EDIT: I opened up comments to people who don't have an account can comment....so that all my friends (most of them don't ahve photoblogs) can comment. so i better see some, got me? :P *ahem*paris*ahem*
