So, last night at 11:30, I decided on a whim to haul my tail over to the local Best Buy to take photos of all the hardcore gamers, er, hustlers lined up to pick up a PS3 on launch day. My little one hour trip out turned into an all night affair, and here at 11:34 PM, I've been up for a little over 39 hours straight...ow.
At this particular Best Buy, there were 32 consoles in stock, and about 45 people in line, I was number 39. Yes...i joined the line for shits and giggles, i know...but i sure could've used the cash, haha. Either way, it was a long, long night. Of all thirty-two people that were going to get a PS3, only 3 were going to keep it to play, the rest were destined for EBAY!! Which in itself isn't a bad proposition considering they were fetching about 3000 to 4000 dollars, and at one point one auction closed for 15,000 dollars.
Seriously, give me a break people, can't we give that cash to Darfur or funding alternative energy research instead of lining the pockets of a huge conglomerate?
Some people were able to sleep a bit, but most just plowed through as they had done the nights before. Some of the people had been there since Monday night.
Jeeeeesus.
I think the highlight was that whenever the NBC-2 guy would go on-air to do a live broadcast all of the people in line would set off their car alarms in the parking lot, just to piss him off, and what's worse is that the WINK -5 guy was laughing his ass off! It was priceless!
Would I do it again? We'll see, all I have to say is that I'd better be getting paid next time I do something crazy like this.
