Harvest Moon in Cape May, NJ

2009.10.10
I took a picture of the moon the night before the harvest moon just because it was nearly full and was emerging from some clouds.

I took this photo as the sun was setting and when I was still oblivious to the pending harvest moon.

Barely visible at first since it was still daylight, the giant harvest moon pops up from behind the trees.

As it gets darker, the moon shows up more prominently.

It rises quickly and is astoundingly large at this angle.

It's a harvest moon when it is closest to earth.

The geese are supposed to fly in front of the moon, but they went over it instead!

They are very disorderly. Maybe they are ducks.

The sun is setting behind me and makes the moon glow brighter.

As it rises it loses some of its orange glow and appears smaller.

I went to the hawk watch platform at Cape May Point hoping to see a few raptors and a nice sunset. There was a guy sitting there, apparently doing nothing. He told me he was waiting for the harvest moon which would be arriving in a few minutes.
