Red bellied woodpecker, often mistakenly called red-headed woodpecker, but oddly enough, it was named for the pinkish hue on its stomach.

I'm fascinated by the beauty in a common starling, a bird we usually overlook or get irritated with because it travels in large groups, makes lots of noice and eats too much.

I was surprised to find a green heron hunting in the pond behind my house in Philadelphia. There are lots of tadpoles and mosquito larvae here.

Female cardinal. Cardinals tend to stay close to their mates, but I have yet to photograph them side by side.
