This is a pelican in Cancun. Along with his buddies, he flew up wind and then rode the current down the coastline looking for fish.
|
Upon sighting a likely catch, he puts out his wings to brake.
|
Showing incredible dexterity, he maneuvers himself into a dive and corkscrews himself into the water.
|
He gulps a whole fish after his successful catch,
|
then pushes off a small wave to look for his next unlucky snack.

It would be real dangerous if there was this Pelican suffering from acute vision problems right above me and it mistook me for a fish! I can just imagine the Emergency Ambulance nurse having to fill out the report!

Janet, were these pics you shot a year or so ago or did you take another trip recently? I remember loving some of your pelican shots a while back, and these reminded me of them. #2 & 3 are particularly intimate -- and your reportage is great!

Hey, GREAT shots! I've seen pelicans dive many times, but I never seem to be in the right place at the right time to capture it. Good work!
