Cosey Caturday

2009.08.23
A successful cat search and Cosey comes home.

Cosey and her happy new caretaker.

Within days Cosey takes over the top of the cat tree which is right at eye level, so when I pass her by, I am likely to hear a purr or get a paw outstretched to greet me.

Pearl thinks Cosey is fun and now there is lots to do. Here the red velvet mouse got away, but the cats forgot about it momentarily as they take a whack at each other.

A recurring theme, with or without the mouse. I love to hear the patter of their paws as they chase each other around the house. It's a good match and they are best friends.

Pearl, Cosey and Quincy watch the birds and the frogs in the back yard.

The house is littered with toys. The mouse on the right squeaks when it moves and forgets to stop squeaking when it is still. Sometimes it squeaks all night. Cosey will fetch the mouse and bring it back to me to throw again. I didn't know cats did that.

A rare moment at rest. Cosey's coat has a smidge of reddish striping.

Her favorite mouse and a magic carpet (it's never in the same place in the morning!)

Cosey has two mice toys under control. She's a good hunter!

Cosey shows you how to grab a mouse.

Sometimes Cosey looks very silver, like a proper Maine Coon.

But sometimes she changes colors like a chameleon.

Pearl (see Christmas Caturday 12/24/08) decided she was bored and needed a playmate, so again I set off to find the right fit for the household. I checked Petfinder and picked a cat I expected to adopt when I met him. Then I remembered Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown, PA where a friend volunteers (and always tells me about all the great kitties for adoption), so I smartly thought she would not be happy with me if I didn't go look there. I checked the website and liked several of the choices, but one cat, named Squirrel caught my eye. They called her a Maine Coon Cat and she looked like my childhood cat, so off I went.

Within minutes the decision to bring Squirrel home was made. She had been brought in with four kittens at a very young age, had raised them, seen them adopted and now was only five pounds, a kitten herself.

"Squirrel" not being a cat name, needed to be changed. After researching Maine Coon cats with help from my friend, we landed on "Cosey", the name of the "Best in Show" winner of the first cat show in the USA, a Maine Coon Cat, of course.

I had committed to going to see the other Petfinder cat so I did. As soon as I met him, he bit me and that solved the worry of adopting two cats. He stayed at his foster home.

Katlover such an awesome story! Cosey got right cosy in your home! My Snowy acted like a dog for a while, fetching his toys while I threw them. Once he got a little older, he stopped doing it, but once in a while, he still fetches for me. :-)
