What, another cat? Caturday

2009.11.22
pixel
Grateful, Gratey for short, points out the date on the calendar so I won't forget when he joined my cat family
pixel
Gratey is so easy-going, he relaxes in my hand while I try to put his 1 1/2 pound size in perspective.
pixel
They say to start tennis players early, so Gratey gets his first lesson in eye-paw coordination.
pixel
He gets distracted when he finds a space between two pillows to explore.
pixel
He wonders if he did something he shouldn't have.
pixel
Five days after moving in Gratey is trying to make friends with Quincy. He needs companionship.
pixel
While Quincy rests, his tail is still active and becomes a perfect toy for a young kitten.
pixel
Gratey thinks it's funny that he was playing with Quincy's tail while Quincy slept.
pixel
Gratey finds furniture that fits his minute size. When the other cats play too rough with him, he goes underneath for some respite.
pixel
This is the first time he has been safely indoors during a rain storm. Pearl and Cosey are surprised to see him bravely coming in close proximity to them.
pixel
He's a bold little kitten and soon he discovers Pearl's bed and tries it out.
pixel
But soon Pearl discovers Gratey in her bed.
pixel
She decides it's okay. He needs a new mother anyway. His real mother was a calico too.
pixel
So, she takes over cleaning him...
pixel
... and he finds it very relaxing.
pixel
Every cat needs a job and Gratey has taken to dusting under the furniture.
pixel
Gratey, being so small, spends a lot of time looking up and asking for things.
pixel
He rubs up against his foster mom and purrs contentedly. Everyone agrees he is a great additon to the household.

About a month ago, I received a call from the listing agent of a house in Chestnut Hill saying that a Realtor who was showing the house saw a kitten who fell through a window grate and couldn't get out. I went over in the pouring rain to investigate (deciding that the kitten could be called "Grateful" once I rescued him) and when I pointed a flashlight into the grate, I saw four eyes reflecting back at me. It was then clear that these feral kittens were being raised under the grate. I coudn't reach to get them out, but they could come and go as they pleased.
A few days later with the help of the the owners of the house, we trapped the kittens and I brought Grateful home. His brother, Fergus, moved into the listing agent's neighbors house.
