There are a festival called the crying sumo (NAKIZUMOU) of the child and a ceremony of 753 (SHICHIGOSAN) in Japan. Because religion is different, I cannot easily say, but it may resemble the ceremony of possibly Japanese them. I love the tenth piece photograph most.

you have captured the ritual so well janiee...it is a hindu ritual to shave off a child's head hair after a certain age. so, most hindu children go through this at some point of their lives when they are young...i did too! :) lovely post

I liked both your "head shaving" sets. well done. I think this one is better though as some of the images are wider and give a better sense of what's happening around the subject.
