Summer Solstice ~ The Garden

2009.06.20
The garden gate, underneath the trumpet vine. CDs tomato beds behind, with lots of structure ready to support the tomato plants that grow 10-12' tall. (4 meters)

snapdragon

raspberry swirl "pinks"l

coreopsis

Not sure what this is but it is so graceful. It helps to make the cottage garden gorgeous.

Dahlia, "Tahiti Sunrise". The petal tips are munched by earwigs. That will end when the it heats up to 100 degree days of summer!

Dahlia, "Mary Jo"

Dahlia, "Black Satin"

Can't remember what this is called, but it is daisy-like

Santa Barbara daisy amongst some salvia

Delphinium, part of the cottage garden

Blanket flower. This low growing plant flowers all summer, and it spreads easily. And it can take some major heat.

Pretty compact yellow flower, not sure what this is either. New this year

Red dahlia

Yellow dahlia, from Annie's Annuals, as are many of the above flowers as well.

This dainty looking flower is deceiving. It is bullet-proof, and it flowers non-stop, even throughout the freezing winter.

Geum, gorgeous orange perennial. Very small flowers, about an inch in diameter.

Perennial foxgloves framing my bear sculpture. Salvia behind it, and Santa Barbara daisys all around.

Our fledgling garden, view from the deck. The trumpet vine over the garden gate is getting ready to explode with color. CDs tomatos, squash, garlic and lettuce on the left, my dahlia bed in the right foreground

My flower gardens are starting to take off. I spent the day watering, planting basil & nasturtium, and taking photos. Then to make a great day perfect I had dinner with my BFF Patty. The weather has been incredibly mild. I'm in heaven! I love summer but I hate the heat. So far this is my year. Enjoy!

I hope to catch up with everyone very soon. The bulk of the hard work is done, and I will hopefully have a little time here & there to photoblog.
