The standard electric lightbulb as invented by Thomas Edison (or Joseph Swan, or someone else, depending on who you believe) does not appear to have long left. For the last 140 years (or perhaps longer) it has been our second main source of light. The EU plans to outlaw them by 2012 and in the US a similar timescale has been set for new efficiency demands that may well kill the good old fashioned bulb. This week in the UK most major retailers have declared that they will not stock them from now on, so it will probably only be a matter of days before they become hard to obtain. Bye bye bulbs.
