This is really deceptive, all sense of scale has been lost. This is one of the biggest bits of driftwood I've ever seen. It must have been a railway sleeper or something. Here it might as well be no bigger than a matchstick.

You've got me on my knees.

Behind the coastguard station is a firing range. Ironically all the sea birds congregate there because it's safer for them. If you look very carefully you can see loads of them just below the horizon.

One for pi day. I wasn't aware of this until I saw Widcat's excellent post.

One day I might try to learn this. Not now though.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
After several months and three false starts, I've finally taken delivery of one of these. It's a bit tricky to use but a lot of fun. I'm hoping that with more experience it'll get easier.

Lessons:

1. Remember to adjust the diopter on the camera first. This is probably good advice for any photoshoot, regardless of the lens though.

2. Pay close attention to the light level when shooting. Use bracketing.

3. For all of the shots taken today the aperture was set at f/2.8. Need to experiment with other apertures. I think that some narrower ones might get better results - easier to find the sweet spot and a slightly less pronounced effect (that's what I'm hoping anyway).

????? It was very pretty in #s 5 and 7. And of course I love #17! The effect accentuates the fact that pi is a never ending number!

lookagain These are such cool and creative shots! Thanks for the learning experience - I'd never seen this lens before. The soft color of #2 appeals to me - and #10 makes me feel like I need something to hang onto or I'll fall over ;))
