Dear Male Chauvinist Pig, We at Let’s Equalise Sexual Botany In All Nature take profound exception to your assigning a sex and a gender-differentiating marker to this poor spider. Boris? Why not Doris, Chloris or Floris? It took us fifty years to get the bloody hurricanes named after your miserable lot and now we have the entire insect kingdom to tackle thanks to your typical thoughtless chauvinistic act. This is not funny! You just don’t get the point, do you? OK, any legless female is going to be in trouble thanks to you, but that condescending ahh is going to give us all a headache. Again. We will be keeping our eye on you in the future and suggest you take the time to ascertain the sex of your subjects first, without of course invading their privacy or right to adopt any sexual guise they wish. Yours, Joyce General Secretary (and that doesn’t mean I type your letters) L.E.S.B.I.A.N.

lol Sorry, Jon. I do't know what's more funny: your entree or Joyce's comment. Anyway, great photo... You know I love bugs! :D

A response to Joyce: Hi Joyce, thanks very much for the interest in this post. I suspect that you have a very good point to make, the trouble is it's just so wrapped up in bile that it becomes hard to give it any credence. Can I suggest that if you are seriously going to campaign for equality in sexual botany you might have a touch more credibility if you try to dissacoate the terms "male chauvinist" and "pig" in your own writing. Cheers Jon

Ahhh for B/D/Chloris, any pig in the vicinity and not least of all, you, for your brave effort in helping legless and persecuted creatures the world over. As the victim of a similar post, I wonder who could have done such a dastardly deed...

I'm not going to lie, when I see fotos like this I always move my feet around when I am sitting to make sure one of these guys is not right by me. I don't think I 'fear' them, I just am not too comfortable around them. Great shot and kinda sad story.

Kind of you to let him live. I guess having taken his picture, it would be rude to kill him!

You are braver than I...and as far as gender...its a spider...regardless of the gender eight (well 7 in this case) creepy crawling legs and fangs.........pretty sure both genders have fangs....
