342. Fireworks in the Wind

2009.10.24

A disappointing set; as it has been whenever I've tried shooting fireworks.

Lessons:

1. Get there early. Both to get a better view, and to avoid missing half the display setting up.
2. When watching fireworks in windy conditions the wind isn't really apparent because we compensate for the movement. The camera doesn't though. Sometimes it gives a pleasing effect, but more often it spoils an otherwise good shot.
3. Try using a longer lens and zooming in more rather than keep going for the same panorama. More variety of shots would be more interesting.
4. I'm sure Mr Freud would make something of the fact that I keep typing fireforks instead of fireworks.

jrregaldie Well, I wouldn't call it disappointing, in fact, I would say that there are a number of this pictures that I would qualify as more than decent
I specially like #1, #2, #4, #5 and #6, and I like them a lot actually :-D

Nubster Don't feel bad, I've been typing "photoglob.com" to log in. Enjoyed these, especially # 1 & # 6 - the feathering gives a nice 3D effect.

smbunation You may be disappointed, but I think these are great. Is that a 90 degree drop on that roller coaster?! Awesome.

urmysunshine Awww, come on; I LIKE your fireforks!!!~ I like the way when the wind catches them it looks like wild hair day; and I like the way the carnival lights randomness really seems to make the fireworks have the same charm and happiness- don't be so hard on yourself!

Julias365 Thanks for the tips. Will give it a go this fireworks night. What does it say about me if I always type firmworks?
