346. Leigh-on-Mud

2009.10.28

Quick, I need an emegency delivery of fish.

And the winner of the hoopla competition is...

Leigh-on-Sea is a small town on the north bank of The Thames. For hundreds of years it served as a port for trade between London and Calais. It was also a stop off point for The Mayflower on it's way to the new world. In recent times it is most famous because in 1940 Leigh cockle boats sailed to Dunkirk to save British soldiers stranded on the beaches there.

If you visit on the right day it can be absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately today the tide was out and the light was awful. Still the seafood and the beer were both excellent, so I can't complain too much.

dontblink They almost look like they are all rolling in rough seas with them all being at different angles. I especially like #7.

jrregaldie Great set, Jon !!
I wonder how much the tide goes up, but it has to be a real lot to make them afloat again !!
For me #8 !!

Nubster The light seems to make the last shot. Thanks for the story too!

lookagain Very interesting scenes to me because it's so different than my everyday world. All the boats settled in a certain way like they're just resting for awhile....which I suppose in a way they are....

Ryana Great post.
It seems that the sea has disappeared ... Fortunately that is only temporary!!
