Normally this kind of "rosone" is for ceiling or main facade... it doesn't seem into a religious building... for me is a ceiling.

Dome of a Muslim mosque? Aren't they the ones that purposefully put imperfections in their work, believing that only God is perfect? The darker squares on the lower right keep the symetry from perfection. Close???

I don't know, but I'm hooked on symmetry - therefore, I love the perfectly framed circle in the square. Makes me feel giddy!! (I hope you get a chance to see my "TI" post today....)
