351. Shooting Star & My Best Photo 2010

Shooting Star is my photo for today's Project 365. It isn't my best photo, but is probably my best to date using second curtain flash.
The other week when I appealed for help in selecting my best photo more people went for this one than any of the others I suggested. Thanks to everyone who helped out. Ruth and Ricky didn't like that approach though and intimated that I might get a visit in the night from some very menacing people, if I wasn't man enough to make my own decision. This brings us on to picture number 3.
I didn't put this one up as an option when I asked people what my best photo was. After all, who would be interested in a portrait where the subject is looking down away from the camera and has his hair, complete with the last remnants of some old hair dye, covering his eyes . Where the hands are too white and the face it too red. Where the lips are cracked and where the background is busy and distracting.

For all that, it is still the one I like the most. I am a firm believer that over and above anything else photography should (at least for an amateur) be fun. The Democratisation of Jelly is the set that I had the most fun with. Both making the camera and doing the shoot. This is the shot that I remember the best from the shoot because Cliff had taken several 'shots' with the jelly camera and then stopped, looked down at it and said, “I just want to see how that last picture turned out” for me it was a very funny moment. Afterwards we all ate jelly. I've never eaten a camera before.
GKorts :-) you still have your head under water and you are breaking the rules but that is what rules a made for

yellodog · 2010-12-17: 13:36
Ryana I like your choice,
but for me you never make (or at least "post") shots that I do not like ... ;-))
(It thus meets up with the last piece of my wish to you)

"May what you see in the mirror delight you, and what others see in you delight them. May someone love you enough to forgive your faults, be blind to your blemishes, and tell the world about your virtues."

Ryana · 2010-12-17: 14:01
onlyricky well I'm sure you've made the best choice!:))

krasotulichka · 2010-12-17: 15:13
DancingDolphin Ah, I can completely understand all the decision problems... I had them too. I'm glad you threw in YOUR favorite, it says more about the photographer which is one of the best things about this project (in my humble opinion!). :-) Very nice!
DancingDolphin · 2010-12-17: 15:22
Nukee Outstanding shot, as usual, Jon....Best wishes in 2011. :)
Nukee · 2010-12-17: 15:48
djnana Is that a jello-mold camera? You do the most amazing work, but I admire your heart for your family more than your photography, Jon. These are outstanding - and the "best" was a wise choice!

redro "Told you so! " Nobody can choose better than you do.
It's indeed The Best choice ! I love it and I love the story behind it. The memories they bring it's the best quality of our pictures.

And this should end the usual polemic about "Which one is the best camera ?"...The answer is obvious in your picture : the Fun camera !
Were the pictures taken with it gelatinous enough ? ;)

redro · 2010-12-17: 19:24
redro Ah, and I love a loooooooot the first 2 pics as well !
redro · 2010-12-17: 19:25
lookagain Three totally diverse shots and all great!!! Your commentary as usual, is humorous and clever....great post, Jon!!! I can tell by Cliff's comment about the camera that he has his dad's sense of humor ;)))
