I see where you are coming from. I have a rule I usually frame 3 to 4 pictures for every one I shoot unless its just an impulsive or action picture. This small discipline means one becomes aware of 'noisy' backgrounds or backgrounds one can use to advantage. Next I search around in the viewfinder for the best angle. If your camera has a depth of field button learn to use that as it can be creatively helpful. I would suggest as an exercise pick one object to practice on and take 20 pictures from various angles, light directions, depth of filed focus and framing. You will learn a lot about your camera and will find your natural style - the place that will become increasingly intuitive and define your photography.
