Day 96: Camping Grafenlehen (100m from McDonalds)
Tenting in Berchtesgaden... across from McDonalds
So we finished up our time in Munich with another museum visit to the Neue Pinakothek, which houses a fantastic collection, including Klimt, Monét, and Van Gogh (Sunflowers!).
Then we headed southward to Berchtesgaden, a small town on the border with Austria by Salzburg. We had a camping site, just a couple km away from the Königssee, a fjord-like lake in the mountains. It should have been picturesque and exciting, camping in the mountains.
However, a series of factors broke down my enthusiasm. So the weather wasn't perfect: 40's and rainy. Well that would have been livable. The camping site, was not exactly ideal. It was in a field across from McDonalds (the real camping experience). The icing on the cake ended up being the zipper on my sleeping bag falling apart, and the weather was looking worse. At that point, we had to admit defeat.
But, despite all that, I DID go camping in the alps (even if it was across from McDonalds, cause that was right by the lake).
