Day 196: 10k on a Whim
2012.07.14
6th place finisher with a 2nd place medal
Amanda had told me about the 5k/10k run the night before, and I decided that I was going to do it, too. I hadn't run since being in Vienna, but I wanted to feel like i had accomplished something, to show myself that I can run a 10k race.
So I woke up too late, had a rushed banana for breakfast and registered for the race.
I ended up keeping pace with Amanda and Molly for most of the race, but around the halfway point, I was ready to puke. I just pushed myself to keep running. I fell behind them, but finished 6th of 8 in the 10k division. I think that my time was safely under an hour, but I don't actually care.
Everyone in the race got a 1st place medal except me. I just happened to be the only person with another runner in my age division. But I wasn't proving anything to anyone but myself.
Also, I color coordinated with my medal.
