It is a woman's prerogative to change her lens.

2006.12.27

I went back to Henrys today, and the wonderful Ricardo understood completely that I was finding the 28-75 mm lens a little bulky and obtrusive to carry around the city, especially at night.

I exchanged it for the small, fast canon 50mm f/1.4. I am so in love with it, I am walking on air. Thank you, Leapfrog, for not saying "I told you so". The Tamron lens was GREAT, and if I could afford two right now, I would keep it.

I want to work in low light, and there is something so pure about starting out with nothing but a fixed 50mm. And at 1.4, I will never need the dreaded flash (if it can't be shot with available light, I won't shoot it).

It was another gray day in hogtown, so I headed to the conservatory at Allen Gardens and took pictures 'till my battery died. I am so happy. I'll put up a bunch of pictures, then edit down to just a few.

My camera feels like a part of me. The more compact size means I won't hesitate to take it with me everywhere I go.

tortoise If you edit out any of the ones you have up right now, I'll... uh... give you an extremely stern look. These are INCREDIBLE! Jaw-dropping. The orange flowers with blue-green leaves makes my heart hurt it's so beautiful. The little cabbagey white leaves. The evergreen needley things. I gasped over and over. I'm loving your new lens, but the lens can't substitute for a good eye. Wow. Wow. Wow.

deleted062007 You did it by Jove ... these are so stunning!! I will never tell you "that I told you so" - I just gave you some options to choose from. Did you ask about used EF lenses and if there are any draw backs?? The 1.4 is still pretty expensive, maybe not as much as a 1.2 --- but these shots just blew me away!! I am so sure that this will be great for shot os paint peeling - I am positive!!!

BTW - this lense does not elimated the flash, but it's prett fast!! Well done JG - and it's prerogative to do this, but I thing you will require approval to change your socks!!! - Art

FaTmAn These are great photos, you have out done your self by miles! I really love number 2,12 & 15 the lines are so defined you have done a great job.

I think its excellent how you have really brought the colours in the flowers.

Awesome shots!

tumbles23 Amazing. I like all of those, what a gift you have, nice job on the last one, I like how the foreground is in focus and the background is blurry.

Leicaroque Excellent macro work. I don't use my macro enough... the zoom is too convenient and versatile. Your photos will motivate me to get out and take some macro shots.

paisthereason these are excellent. i got the f/1.8 50mm prime for xmas, and even though it's so cheap and plastic casing, the photo quality is still great. I am definitely a fan, and even more so now, seeing your photos.
