I took it at a very open moment, and I'm glad you can see it too - her emotion. You see challenge, and I would describe her expression differently, but who really knows what someone feels?

Again, words are woefully inadequate to capture all the emotions that are contained in these pictures, so I'm not going to even try. I think it's amazing that new emotions come up when I look at them at different times, too. Portraiture like this is impossible unless you have the ability to put your subject at ease, to see inside them, and you clearly have that ability in spades. Also, you know I am a smile junkie, and that is one luminous smile, especially in the first shot. It starts in the mouth, but really explodes in the eyes. There is beauty in the complex, and these pictures are ripe with complexity.

Thank you all so much. I like these pictures very much. I'm lucky to know some very expressive and amazing women, and that these two (this page and previous page) were willing to let me learn by photographing them. I'm going to pressure everyone in my life into letting me do some portraits. The man sitting behind my subject had an amazing face. I managed to steal 3 shots of him. If I had more nerve, I would have approached him and asked if he would sit for a few shots. I'm not sure how I feel about my 'stolen' faces.
