The first is a nice portrait. The second, however, is priceless. Caught between a sneer and a grin. Or a sneering grin. Or something else entirely. When I think of an inscrutable expression, a stony rictus generally comes to mind. A mask. A pokerface. How can a face be simultaneously so expressive and yet so completely inscrutable? It's a good capture, but for a portrait like that, first you have to elicit the expression. Therein lies your strength.

There's a certain ruthless quality that comes across when I look at his eyes. It's the second pic that scared me. I think it's wonderful that a photo can evoke so many different emotions.
