I'm learning as I go, and that's because people I know are willing to give me a chance. It's risky to let someone take pictures. I've found it hard to trust what the camera will see and reveal, and I'm not the only one. And so I take it seriously. I want the ability to reflect back to the person the way I see them. That's what I reach towards.

In this portrait, I think you can see the edge of the experience - the exchange of risks, how she looks right at me through the camera, used to being the one who sees, daring me to see her.
