of clay

2007.03.06

These cups and bowels give me such pleasure over time. They are my favourites, and they feel like friends.

All of them were bought from a place near me, clay design, at Harbord and Brunswick. They have a studio, and much of the work in the store made on site. They also carry work from a carefully selected group of pottery artists and studios. Several shown above are from sunspots.

pattyb Oh Julia, I completely agree. I have such treasured pieces myself. I just love the way you have shown these! Such beautiful rich colors. The gallery also looks fantastic. Big fan of clay...

tortoise Yes, gorgeous. There is such power in things made with care by loving hands, especially in this day and age. My fingers ache to touch them.

jgreat You've captured the very earthy feel of clay

AgnesB I like the rustic feel of these cups. Holding them must give one a sense of connection to the mother earth.
I also love the kitty's curiosity and its reflection. Can't help it ... cats are my favourite animal.

moonunit80 I love them, and I checked out their site hoping to be able to purchase some, but alas... I am envious of your neighborhood pottery studio!

Mayapur Hi, Jack, very nice photos - lots of feelings. Thoughtful composition too. One with the cat is lovely - the soft/hard and furry/refllective surface textures contrast is at great play.

jjimson Very clever on the first one! But the last is the best!

JuliaGotz What happens unexpectedly is often most interesting. It's the readiness to take the picture when it happens. He's not really allowed on the kitchen table. That's a rule. But this time ...
