I'm tired ...

2007.09.08
of waking up tired. So I headed down to my friendly neighborhood sleep lab for a sleep study. Hi Sam!

This is MY room. Right by the desk. Bright florescent lights were bugging me, so I turned them off and entertained myself doing self portraits with my bike lights.

Shut the door and did some long exposures using the red and white lights. Ooooh. Moody!

Ready for my close up. After wiring us up, Kevin and Sam monitor us all night, which includes listening to the sounds of 6 strangers sleeping. Can you imagine? A couple were already in their beds when they wired me, and I could hear the amplified breathing. It was like a bad dream.

Soap Opera Star. Here I'm playing the duped wife with the incurable disease in one of those hospital dramas. My husband/doctor is actually sleeping with the head nurse.

I think this is a great look for me. Once I was plugged in to the machines in my room, I couldn't get up anymore unless they came in and unplugged me. I asked - via the intercom - for a glass of water. I called Kevin back for an extra pillow. I could hear sounds from the other room, so I asked for earplugs. After that, I noticed there was too much light in the room, so I asked them to close the blinds better. I was thinking of asking for a cookie or a story, but I think I'd pushed the limits, so I kept quiet after that.

No continental breakfast at the sleep lab. Not even a cup of coffee. I had fantasies of getting up in the morning and going out for breakfast in kensington market. But at 6:30 on a Saturday morning, the market still belongs to strung out ravers and drug addicts.

I went home after this, and tried to get some more sleep.

The cats held a parade (in my honour) across my bed for an hour, practiced their wrestling skills and finished the morning's entertainment with a dance competition.

Suddenly it occurs to me that my relatively recent problem with fatigue may be feline in origin.

spartacus Great series. Sometimes reality makes the best art. Perhaps you can bring the cats to the sleep lab next time?
