Eleuthera: turquoise morning

2007.11.22
I wasn't too sure of my route this morning, trying to find a path to the north beaches without passing through that flooded out bit of road. For a while, I thought I was walking parallel to the sea. Then there it was. Takes my breath away.

I walked about 3 miles before I saw another person.

Happy beach toes.

See mom? I'm wearing my hat.

I climbed up the hill to get a look at one of the big, elegant homes along the water. There is another life here, like a parallel universe. There is enough of a materialist still residing in me that I can start feeling slightly ... jealous.

Fortunately, I'm easily distracted. Look! My beautiful red sarong, that was brought to me from someone's trip around the world. It's magic.

I take it everywhere - tiny to pack and carry, instead of a beach towel.

Sammy says this is the driftwood used for bbq, because it's very hard wood and burns slow and even. It's called The Casuarina Tree, and it is a type of ironwood.

I've always wanted to use the word 'festooned' in a sentence. These are the roots of a driftwood tree festooned with nets and ropes.

Look at the birdie.

That's my self-conscious 'hope no one is looking at me taking a picture of myself' face.

Beaches on the Atlantic side of Eleuthera, Bahamas.

Carley Stunning, breathtakingly beautiful set! The colors and the textures are incredible. The house doesn't make me jealous, but the beach sure does!!!

Sheldon The tropics! Where to start - the blues, the rocky reef, the shimmering water - many beautiful pictures in this set!

I have never before seen a Ruddy Turnstone admiring festooned driftwood.
