Tropical Dreams Motel Resort, Eleuthera, Bahamas

2007.11.24
Sammy and Rose run the Tropical Dreams Motel and Resort just outside the settlement of North Palmetto Point. This is where I've been staying the past week.

This is my room. You can see part of the kitchen, my FABULOUS local pineapple, behind me the door to the back garden, and at the right of the picture, the front door. I had everything I needed for a great holiday.

Sammy found all these floats washed up on the beaches, and used them for decoration.

Sammy Sands is an energetic business man involved in local politics. He makes sure everything here at Tropical Dreams is well maintained, organized and spotless. Sammy is a tennis pro. He represented Eleuthera at the Bahama Games in Nassau in five championships.

There is lots of dense green forest all over the island, but you wouldn't be able to walk through it without a machete because it grows so close. So Sammy cut a pathway through the trees and plants around the perimeter of his property. If you walk down the path and wait quietly, birds and butterflies appear.

This butterfly is one I photographed on Sammy's nature walk.

Flowers at the front of the hotel.

Hammocks in the back yard - a great place for a nap.

In the afternoon light, the bark of a tree in the yard. Sammy says you can boil the leaves for tea, add sugar, and it's one of the best teas you can have.
It's called Kamalamee or Gumbolimbo. "Gumbolimbo tree, and its bark is a common topical remedy for skin sores, measles, sunburn, insect bites, and rashes. Strips of bark are boiled in water and then used topically or drunk as tea to treat backaches, urinary tract infections, colds, flu, and fevers. It’s even used as an aphrodisiac" quoted from www.bahamasgateway.com/bahamas_bush_medicine.htm

On Eleuthera, this is called a Moneyback moth. If it flies into your house, money is coming to you. It is also known as a Black Witch Moth, Ascalapha odorata. I took this picture at night on the balcony of the hotel, where I go to go on the internet. Sammy has wireless internet, but my computer reception isn't great, so I spend a lot of time on the balcony outside Sammy's office. That's where I am right now.

Night sky, night bug (looks just like a leaf) and jasmine everywhere.

I'm happy to point out Sammy is using this picture on his website now.

If you are thinking of going to Eleuthera (and of course you want to come to this beautiful island), then take a look at Tropical Dreams. They have suites, efficiencies, and a two bedroom apartment.

There are lots of vacation properties for rent on the island, but they can be very expensive. Tropical dreams is very reasonably priced and has everything. It's very central. You can walk to both oceans, or rent a car and tour the whole island from here. The store is 5 minutes walk away. I loved being so close to a local settlement.

Kioko Greeting. Just dropping in nice site. Help me! Need information about: Handmade soap yahoogroup. I found only this - handmade Soaps canada. Hermès frets mainly help spot layers; now one century may leave on one product at a business, preparing each vast part. The three fine hands. With best wishes :-), Kioko from Thailand.
