When the days are so short, my night-owl tendencies come out full force. All day I feel heavy and tired, and at night, I feel alert and energised. Sunday was, apparently, sunny and beautiful, the city covered with a massive blanket of snow. I couldn't bring myself to get out there and shovel until dusk. At midnight, the trek to the all night grocery store seemed much more appealing then trying to fall asleep.

I need the sun to come back and reset my bodyclock. In the late summer, when the days are still long, I can feel the sun going away, and it makes me feel sad. The upside of this comes at the end of December. The upward trend of lengthening days gives me hope. Many people find February the worst month of the year, while I feel it full of the promise of light.

I'm not usually a big fan of these kinds of photoshop distortions. I was surprised how much I enjoyed these experiments with exaggerating 'unsharp mask'. To me, they look a bit like paintings, and they also capture the magic of lights and colour in relation to the white world of snow.

Bradley Julia, those are fabulous shots. If you are printing them as christmas cards, I'll take a dozen of each. The shot of College St. at midnight is one of your best landscapes.

Estel I was not so sure about PP before neither but it can turn out great. Your work is a good example!

thepictureman WOW !!! The "unsharp mask" shots and # 7 would make good Christmas cards. I wish we had snow for Christmas down in LA.

Sheldon Isn't the snow so beautiful?!

#4 with the glow of the lamps, the falling snow, and the colourful figure - it's my pick of the bunch!

sandmoon eventhough you dont like the photoshop distorsions, i think you did a great job, i really like 3 for some odd reason :)

i understand so well what you feel about the end of summer and the return of the longer days end of december... i think november is a particularly difficult month when you live in the North - here in lebanon it is not that bad... but we dont have snow :( at least not in the city... enjoy it!!
