I felt a lot of emotion watching these kids give the game everything they had. I didn't participate in team sports as a kid and so much of this is outside my experience.

The red team were pushing hard and getting a lot of shots on goal, but they were denied time and again by the skilled goalie on the yellow team.

These capture something of the essence of the game for both players and spectators. Nice set. I think I like #7 best.

Well done! You captured the action even if you are not so used to sport shots...

The curse of all action photographers is caps, hats and helmets as it is almost impossible to get the face! Still you have done amazingly well given the lens you were using. I'm impressed. Also great that you ventured out of your comfort zone both in terms of the subject and the fact that you were not a big team participant.

I can smell the ice! These surface memories of joyful physicality -- testing and exploring new spaces of power. Looking forward to your *field* hockey set...

p.s. forgot to add: #3 is my favourite -- great stick-handling, by player *and* photographer...

Great action shots. I love #3 particularly, for the movement and the expression on her face - Her eyes reflects the opportunity she's trying hard not to miss. Nice captures.

These are great! How did you get the light so bright with these? My partner plays ice and street hockey at weekends and as I am not allowed to use the flash, the shots are usually quite blurry, dark and grainy, so basically deleted each time. Is it a matter of just increasing the iso to obtain more light and sharpness or is there something else I should be doing?

For me image 3 really seems to capture the spirit of the sport. Also good heads up hockey!
