Choreography & Performance: Bill James
Electronics Collaborators/Designers: Shelagh Young & Doug Back
from the program: This excerpt is part of an on-going collaboration with writer Ursula Pflug and visual artists Doug Back and Shelagh Young. The project will be shown in its entirety in an exhibition in April 2008 at the Pentimento Fine Art Gallery on Queen Street East in Toronto.
This work is evolving, and included the use of technology that is probably new to dance. In the first part of the piece, Bill moves through the space with equipment that reads signals from various electronics, including cell phones and my camera. With his device turned towards me, each time I took a picture, it would sound.
For me, Bill's experimental work evoked visions of technology taking over the body and mind - the mad/maddened scientist.
