Playback Creatures: more stories

2008.04.08
A story teller comes forward from the audience. As she tells her story, she chooses someone to play herself.

Once the actors are cast, the musician improvises a soundscape, and the actors wordlessly take their places on the stage.

In this story, a woman who has taken care of lots of beings in her life is left with one more - her daughter's very needy dog.

She knows someone who might be interested in giving the dog the love and attention he needs, but she's not sure how this is going to work out.

the dog is adjusting to the new environment. this was such a funny story to watch!

Another story: going to england to visit an elderly relative and his feisty pug dog.

The daily garden drama unfolds between Buster the Pug, The Cheeky Squirrel, and The Anxious Finches. cheeky squirrel makes it up the wall with the finch food. buster is defeated again.

Actors play the human characters, switch to playing the animals, then switch back to play Uncle and Niece, sipping tea and watching the drama in the garden. music brings each story to life.

Lisa Patterson uses keyboards, singing and percussion.

a story about scuba diving: in awe of nature

Under the sea: grey blue shadows ... white sand tiger sharks appear. majestic and indifferent to th human visitors. a moment of reverence.

At the opening of this story, the storyteller's mother is dying of cancer, and the daughter is working out a relationship with the mother's poodle.

The dog adapts and embraces some new routines and experiences. Life goes on for those left behind.

The end of this playback evening of stories of creatures great and small, and the end of this season of playback.

Tonight there were only three actors on stage - not the usual four. Brian has moved to Ottawa. I wonder if there will be a new member of the company when they begin again in the fall.

I feel it is a challenge to capture the moments of grace when the actors are inspired and the story truly lives. I will do my best to see that there is some better lighting in place for the fall season of Playback.

Madoc When I red the first word of the first photo's note, I saw what makes you one of the most fascinating portraitists here on Photoblog: Each one of your portraits tells a story. With meaning and with style.
