The challenge of midday sun - we found ways to work with the strong light. We'll probably do another shoot later in the day to work with more radiant light.

great series and a great person to photograph! My father was a passionate photographer and as a child i was one of his objects. I for one never wanted to be seen, for me it was painful and i also felt my father doesn´t want me as a person, but only uses me as an object for his obsession photography. Therefore later for many many years i hated when somebody pointed the camera at me and i also never never liked to take pictures of another person, because i assumed they would feel the same way i did-do, that i only use them and don´t respect them as a person. It´s interesting how our own experiences shape the way we work as photographers. I´m only in the process of learning to accept portraits both ways as a model and also as a photographer.

WOW WOW` WOW we could use more of that around here..;) seriously I have alot to say ...first of all for the funny.. I just hate it when a guy's hair is prettier than mine..;) I love 2 ... there is something just so ooooo la la about that pic... it should be a poster... the whole set is gorgeous and you captured so many different facets of him.. his personality shines thru .. I see strenght and a cool calm but he really could be a bad boy too... I really think I would rate these portraits at the top of what you've done but who am I to say ... my fav is still the little old lady on the bus.. truly delightful set of revealing pictures... I love when you can see THE person in a set.. NOT just what they look like...

If Jon-Paul doesn't make it in the business I'll be shocked!! You have captured him beautifully. Strong, determined, happy, playful, intense, an amazing sense of self is wildly apparent in these shots. Bravo to you Julia and best of luck to Jon-Paul!! ; ))

I like #1, 5, & 11 best. They seem to capture his personality well. He's easy on the eyes... :)

You are right, the last shot is great, especially as it shows a different personality to his face. Added to that, the depth of field and background really help to fill the image.

So varied are the looks in this selection. I do see the strength of the last one but I find the patchy brightness of the background distracting? #5 and #3 are also top picks for me.
